Thangaraja wins Bengaluru Open for his third title in 2025

N Thangaraja has long held a reputation as one of Sri Lanka’s top golfing exports, and his performances in the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) during 2025 have only reinforced his standing as a model of consistency and class. Competing against a deep field of Indian professionals on a wide range of courses, Thangaraja’s ability to deliver results year after year has become his hallmark.
Born in 1981, Thangaraja hails from the Royal Colombo Golf Club and made the jump to professional golf in 2013. That year, he made an immediate impact with victory at the Noida Golf Course Championship, laying the foundation for a career that would take him across South Asia’s most challenging golfing venues. Over the following decade, he built his CV with further wins — at the Panchkula Golf Club event in 2015, the City Bank American Express Chittagong Open in 2018, and the Vizag Open in 2023, steadily amassing trophies while rarely being out of contention on moving day.
The highlight of Thangaraja’s 2025 season so far came at the Ahmedabad Open Golf Championship presented by IndusInd Bank. In a fiercely contested event, Thangaraja’s steady hand under pressure and excellent course management saw him outlast a strong field to claim his fifth PGTI title. But his season has been about more than single moments of glory. He finished third at the SECL Chhattisgarh Open and sixth at the Mysuru Open at JW Golf Course, adding valuable points and prestige to his tour resume. Those performances have helped him rack up total earnings of ₹39,18,763 on this year’s tour, keeping him firmly among the money leaders.
The 2025 schedule has been particularly competitive, featuring events at storied venues such as Imperial Golf Estate in Ludhiana and others around the country. Thangaraja’s ability to compete successfully against players familiar with local greens and conditions speaks volumes for his adaptability and technical skill. His playing style—marked by fluid iron shots and composed putting—remains a template for emerging professionals across the region.
Thangaraja’s career is also a testament to perseverance and growth. Navigating the intense rigors of the PGTI and winning not just early in his career but also as a veteran highlights both his longevity and continued relevance. As he moves deeper into the 2025 season, carrying momentum from Ahmedabad and other strong results, Thangaraja stands out as a steadying presence not just for Sri Lanka but for the entire subcontinental golfing community. His unwavering competitiveness and professionalism ensure that all eyes will remain on him throughout the year.
