PGA TOUR: BMW Championship at Caves Valley

Scottie Scheffler claimed the BMW Championship title with a dominant performance, finishing at 15-under-par with a total score of 269 over four rounds. Scheffler’s steady play and sharp putting down the stretch helped him secure a two-shot victory over Robert MacIntyre, who finished at 13-under. Scheffler’s ability to maintain composure under pressure demonstrated why he remains a frontrunner in the FedEx Cup chase.

Indian-American Akshay Bhatia showed resilience and promise at this challenging FedEx playoff event, finishing tied for 26th with a total score of +2. Bhatia’s rounds—75, 69, 66, and 72—reflected determination, especially his third-round resurgence where a 66 moved him up the leaderboard. His growing consistency signals an encouraging trajectory on the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf: Indianapolis Event

The LIV Golf Indianapolis event was marked by a captivating playoff between Sebastián Muñoz and Jon Rahm. Both finished at 22-under-par after 54 holes, pushing the limits of scoring excellence. Muñoz emerged victorious on the first playoff hole, securing his fifth win of the season. Jon Rahm, with a scintillating final-round 60, finished as runner-up but clinched the 2025 season-long Individual Championship, underscoring his dominance since joining LIV Golf.

The Torque GC team etched their name in the record books, posting a cumulative 64-under-par, the lowest team score in LIV Golf history. Despite strong competition, the event did not feature Indian or Indian-American players, highlighting an ongoing gap for the region in the LIV ranks.

LPGA: The Standard Portland Classic

Japan’s Akie Iwai dazzled at the Standard Portland Classic, recording a final score of 18-under-par to claim her maiden LPGA title. Her superb putting and consistent scoring—opened with rounds of 67, 67, and a tournament-low 64—powered her clear of a competitive field.

Indian golfer Aditi Ashok delivered a strong performance, finishing tied 6th at 17-under-par. Her steady weekend rounds of 65 and 67 highlighted her ability to handle pressure and maintain composure among the world’s best. Indian-American player Gurleen Kaur also impressed at Portland, finishing 4th at 13-under-par, cementing her status as a rising star on the LPGA Tour.

Celebrations and Close Calls

Scottie Scheffler’s BMW triumph solidified his reputation as one of golf’s finest competitors in high-stakes events. Sebastián Muñoz’s playoff victory at LIV Golf Indianapolis showcased his clutch temperament and shot-making brilliance, while Jon Rahm added yet another accolade by securing the season-long championship.

Aditi Ashok and Gurleen Kaur’s standout finishes at Portland confirmed the rise of Indian and Indian-American talent on the LPGA stage. Akshay Bhatia’s steady climb on the PGA Tour offers further hope and inspiration for the next generation of golfers from the subcontinent.

In a week rich with drama and skill, golf’s global tapestry sparkled—from the emerald fairways of Maryland to the strategic battles in Indianapolis and the competitive grit in Portland. For these athletes, every stroke mattered, and every finish told a story of relentless pursuit and enduring passion.

This was a week that celebrated golf’s champions and honored those who emerged stronger despite narrow misses—a fitting chapter in the ongoing saga of the sport.
