PV Sindhu continues to rebuild; Satwik and Chirag set sights on big win

Over the past two weeks, PV Sindhu and the men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have delivered solid performances on the BWF World Tour. Their relative success in the Hong Kong Open and the China Masters has inspired Indian hopes for renewed success on the circuit. Their efforts highlight Sindhu's gradual return to form in singles and the duo's consistent results in doubles, both building on their post-Olympic cycle.
Sindhu entered the World Championship with flat expectations, but a rousing run to the quarterfinals sent her massive fan base in India soaring on a rocket of hope. A 64-minute loss to Putri Kusuma Wardani was filled with enough energy to give the Indian star scent of a fresh wind. A big win against Pornpawee Chochuwong, in straight games, underlined Sindhu's rejuvenation. Eventually, it took her nemesis An Se Young to force the Indian out of the China Masters. At 30, Sindhu continues to be nimble on her feet, fierce from the back court, and clever at the net. Her cross court smashes and solid defense against Chochuwong are impressive signs as she works her way back from injury. The quarterfinal against world No. 1 An Se Young ended in a 14-21, 13-21 defeat in 38 minutes, extending Sindhu's winless streak to eight against the Korean gold medalist from Paris.
Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have continued to pursue their quest for doubles legend in badminton. Their partnership is crafted on synergy - a rhythmic fusion of Satwik's backcourt smashes and Chirag's net intercepts, forged from the hearth of Indian badminton and reinforced by Olympic heartbreak. At the Hong Kong Open, they stormed through, reaching the final with dominant displays, including a quarterfinal win over Malaysia's Arif/Roy 21-14, 20-22, 21-16, their rotational defense and overhead kills overwhelming opponents. The final against China's top-ranked Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang went three games, ending in a 19-21, 21-14, 21-17 loss—a valiant effort.
They followed through with another strong showing in the China Masters. The duo has reached the semifinals with a blistering quarterfinal rout of China's Ren Xiang Yu/Xie Haonan 21-14, 21-15, opening with a 7-0 lead. Their focus on getting off to an explosive start and minimizing errors is beginning to pay dividends.
The season has been spectacular for Satwik and Chirag. This week, they reached their seventh semifinal of the season. Bronze in the World Championship, runner-up in Hong Kong, and another potential significant result this weekend. They are well on their way to building from the debris that confronted them in Paris.
